Lake Minnewanka is located on Lake Minnewanka Loop, just a 15-minute drive from Banff. If you’re driving, we recommend arriving at least 60 minutes before your scheduled trip to ensure you find a parking spot and have time to explore the area before heading to the docks. Lake Minnewanka’s directions can be easily found via Google Maps or by following the local signs.
Yes, Banff Fishing provides fishing rods, reels, tackle, and modern electronic sonar equipment on all our guided trips. The tour includes an expert guide and a Parks Canada Fishing License.
Each person is allowed to keep up to two fish if they bring their own cooler and have a plan for preparation. However, we strongly encourage catch-and-release within the National Park.
Please wear comfortable clothing. We recommend a warm layer and a rain jacket, as mountain weather can be unpredictable and change quickly. Also, please bring snacks and a water bottle, as food and drinks are not provided.
Lake Minnewanka weather can be unpredictable. The lake tends to be cooler than Banff, so even on warm days, a jacket is recommended. Trips will only be canceled if it is deemed unsafe to head out. If a cancellation occurs, we will offer to reschedule.
The Black Anchor Snack Shop offers a variety of snacks and to-go food and drinks right off the lakeshore. Washroom facilities are available at the parking lot, and there are plenty of picnic and recreational areas around Lake Minnewanka. Please note that there are no washrooms on the boats.
We advise against swimming in Lake Minnewanka as the water is extremely cold, even during the summer months.
